The Windsor Framework came into life on the 27th of February 2023. it amends and works alongside the Northern Ireland Protocol which was established to enable Northern Ireland to remain as part of the United Kingdom, continue to part of the European Union single market and protected the Good Friday. The Windsor Framework introduces new process and procedures designed to help aid and streamline trade between Northern Ireland and Great Britain.
Key changes include:
• Making trade easier with the introduction of the United Kingdom Internal Market Scheme (UKIMS). This will lead to the reduction of administration and red tape and a reduction in customs checks.
• The supply of medicines rules
• The Stormont Brake, this allows the Northern Ireland Assembly a say in any European Unions laws that will have a direct effect on Northern Ireland
• Data sharing, this introduces a new era of data sharing which will be analysed and used for monitoring trade flows and making sure businesses are in full compliance with EU Rules.
