COWAN ARCHITECTS CHOSES CRAWLEY OPEN HOUSE FOR ITS CHRISTMAS CHARITY DONATION
Cowan Architects has chosen homeless charity, Crawley Open House, as a deserving cause for its Christmas donation. The Company has witnessed first-hand the amazing role they play, not only in Crawley but further afield across Mid Sussex, as they have recently been working with the charity to expand the accommodation they offer in order to meet the growing need while remaining sustainable in the face of future government cuts. The project has included the conversion of first floor offices and meeting/treatment rooms into eight new move-on bedrooms, bathrooms, a communal kitchen, and a living and dining facility.
The Cowan team was keen to support those who have found themselves homeless, not only given the difficult time of year, but also given the additional hardships that many have faced during 2020.
“Crawley Open House is unique in the region and they welcome the homeless and vulnerable from across Mid Sussex and beyond” said Phill Mumford, Managing Director of Cowan Architects. “The value of their work really resonated with us and we hope the donation will make a difference”.
Ian Wilkins of Crawley Open House said “As you can imagine, the current circumstances have made it difficult for many of our usual supporters to help as they normally would, so we are especially grateful for any assistance at this time. We’re very grateful to everyone at Cowan Architects for this amazing donation towards our work”.
Crawley Open House has been on the front line serving the homeless and vulnerable of Crawley and West Sussex for 25 years. It operates a 24 bed high support hostel, a busy drop-in day centre open 365 days a year, 3 move-on houses and a community outreach team.
Last year the charity managed to resettle around 60% of hostel residents to somewhere more appropriate and permanent. There were over 24,000 support appointments for residents, day centre users and those staying on the streets.
Crawley Open House has managed to remain open throughout the Coronavirus crisis, with a full hostel, 4 full move-on houses and almost 100 people temporarily accommodated locally by Mid Sussex, Horsham and Crawley Councils. Whilst costs have increased donations and income are falling, so any donations towards their vital work are massively appreciated. Visit the website at www.crawleyopenhouse.co.uk to donate.
