General Election nominations now open for Mid Sussex constituency

On Thursday 12 December voters in Mid Sussex will head to the polls to elect a new Parliamentary representative in the 2019 General Election.

The nomination period for prospective Parliamentary candidates opened at 9am on Monday 11 November and closes at 4pm on Thursday 14 November.

The deadline to register to vote in the General Election is Tuesday 26 November 2019. Whilst there is still time, it’s running out quickly. Anyone who isn’t registered to vote won’t be able to take part. The good news is that it only takes a few minutes to register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

It is worth remembering that registering for Council Tax does not mean you are automatically on the Electoral roll, these are separate processes.

For those already registered, Poll cards are currently being distributed by Royal Mail.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 26 November and anyone who wishes to appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf must do so by 5pm on Wednesday 4 December 2019. Residents who wish to appoint a proxy voter must explain why the proxy is required and if proxy voting is chosen for all future elections then evidence must be provided to support the application.

Tom Clark, Returning Officer for Mid Sussex District Council said:

“Anyone not yet registered to vote should do so as soon as possible. It’s quick and easy to register, but after the deadline of 26 November, it will be too late.”
