Sussex Cancer Fund Purchases a Spirometer to Improve Patient Care.

The Sussex Cancer Fund is committed to improving cancer services and ensuring patients receive the best possible care. As part of this commitment, we have recently funded the purchase of a spirometer for use in the respiratory clinic, at a cost of £1,094.

How This Helps Patients
Currently, when patients are referred to the respiratory clinic with a possible lung cancer diagnosis, they often need lung function tests to assess their breathing. These tests are typically carried out in the lung function department, requiring an additional hospital appointment.

By providing a spirometry test during the clinic appointment, we can:
✅ Reduce the number of hospital visits for patients
✅ Speed up treatment decisions by providing essential lung function data immediately
✅ Help identify suitable treatment pathways – for example, assessing lung function to determine if a patient is suitable for surgery at Guy’s Hospital

This simple piece of equipment is making a real difference by ensuring that lung cancer patients receive quicker, more streamlined care with fewer disruptions to their daily lives.

Making a Difference with Your Support
Thanks to donations and fundraising efforts, the Sussex Cancer Fund continues to invest in equipment and resources that improve cancer care in Sussex hospitals. If you’d like to support us in funding more vital projects like this, please consider making a donation.
