An Interview with....

Sussex Chamber: Congratulations on HSEnergy Group’s recent ISO 9001:2015 accreditation! What does this achievement mean for the company?
Neil Mitchell: Thank you! Achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification is a fantastic milestone for us. It reflects our commitment to quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement across all areas of the business. As a company providing cutting-edge solar and energy storage solutions, it’s vital that our customers—whether businesses, homeowners, or public institutions—have confidence in our processes and services. This accreditation ensures we meet the highest industry standards and reinforces our dedication to delivering reliable and innovative energy solutions.
Sussex Chamber: HSEnergy Group has been making waves in the renewable energy sector. Can you tell us more about your role in shaping the industry?
Neil Mitchell: We are actively engaged in industry developments, and I’m honoured to have been appointed to the Policy Liaison Group (PLG) for Future Homes. This group plays a crucial role in shaping government policies around sustainable energy and the built environment. My involvement allows HSEnergy to contribute to important discussions around energy efficiency, grid flexibility, and how businesses and households can benefit from the evolving energy landscape. It also enables us to stay ahead of regulatory changes, ensuring our solutions align with future requirements and opportunities.
Sussex Chamber: Energy storage is becoming an increasingly important topic for businesses. How is HSEnergy helping companies take advantage of this shift?
Neil Mitchell: There have been some significant legislative changes that are transforming the way businesses can approach energy storage. Traditionally, companies have looked at energy solutions primarily as a way to reduce costs. However, with the latest advancements, energy storage can now become a revenue stream. Businesses can store excess energy and sell it back to the grid at peak times, benefiting from dynamic pricing while also supporting the wider energy network. This is a game-changer for companies looking to take control of their energy costs, improve sustainability, and even generate additional income. We are working closely with businesses across Sussex and beyond to help them integrate these solutions effectively.
Sussex Chamber: HSEnergy is also expanding into the education sector. How can schools and universities benefit from energy storage?
Neil Mitchell: Schools and universities face rising energy costs, and our solutions allow them to not only manage their energy more efficiently but also actively contribute to the energy supply in their local community. By storing renewable energy during off-peak periods, educational institutions can feed stored energy back into the local grid at times of high demand, helping to stabilise local supply and reduce the need for expensive imported energy.
This active participation not only reduces operating costs and supports the community but also plays an important role in reducing strain on the national grid infrastructure. With the UK facing an estimated £75 billion in infrastructure upgrades to meet the government’s 2035 electrification targets, enabling local flexibility and smart energy sharing through solutions like ours helps to mitigate the need for some of those costly upgrades. It’s a win-win, combining environmental, financial, and community benefits.
Sussex Chamber: What’s next for HSEnergy Group?
Neil Mitchell: We’re continuing to drive innovation across the renewable energy sector, with a particular focus on large-scale energy storage solutions for businesses and public sector organisations. Our mission is to help businesses and communities achieve energy independence while maximising cost savings and sustainability benefits. We’re also exploring new partnerships and initiatives to expand our impact. It’s an exciting time for HSEnergy, and we look forward to supporting more businesses in making the transition to smarter, more efficient energy solutions.
